Hire Your First Wedding Vendor

DIY Bride

February 12, 2019

So here you are.  You’ve met the love of your life, and now you get to plan a wedding. The fun part is just beginning and you couldn’t be more thrilled. But that begs the question of where do you start? What should be your first move in planning your big day? It’s time to Hire Your First Wedding Vendor! Let me give you a little hint. It’s not the dress, it’s not the flowers, and it’s not the venue. It’s your photographer! Now you might be a little surprised to hear me say this so I’m going to break down the why.

Alyssa Brooke Photography, Photography for Fun Loving Adventurous Couples, Who Your First Vendor Should Be

Your photographer will help plan the day

If you are working with me or a photographer much like myself, you’re the kind of bride or groom that values portraits with your spouse and want to work with a photographer who is invested in you as a couple. That being said, hiring a photographer for your first vendor choice will help you set your entire day up for success. If your goal is lots of photos and lots of beautiful memories, then when you hire your first wedding vendor your photographer should be the first person you hire. They are experts in cultivating a photo centered timeline and will do their very best to help you secure all of those images that you’ve dreamed of.

They know everyone

They know everyone, and when I say everyone I mean everyone in the wedding space. In my area, the wedding industry community is pretty tight-knit. That means your photographer probably knows the perfect fit for your florist, cake baker, planner, etcetera. They are going to be able to suggest to someone that you will love and love working with.  They will be guaranteed professionals.

They are jacks of all trades

Unexpected events will pop up on your wedding day. I don’t like to say things will go wrong, there will just be things that maybe you didn’t plan for. Most photographers are jacks of all trades. They can stitch up a torn dress, they can help with flower arrangements, they can help rally the bridesmaids, and they make a mean Mimosa.

You will spend the majority of your time with them

Of all the events that will take place on your wedding day, the photos will take up the most amount of time. You will spend more time with your photographer than you do with your future spouse on your wedding day. You want to make sure that this is someone that you absolutely love being around and that you know will take care of you and make you a priority in the day. Don’t settle for someone you don’t jive with just because you love their images. Take the time to choose a photographer that you’re going to absolutely love.

They’ve been around the block

It’s likely your photographer has seen tens of dozens of weddings. More weddings probably then he or she would care to admit to. But what comes from all of that experience is a wealth of knowledge. Consider your photographer a walking talking wedding encyclopedia. Odds are they’re going to have answers to almost any question you can ask about planning your wedding. Consider them your own personal wedding guru.

They’re very organized

Most of us by trade are very organized. Like myself, they are typically detail-oriented, which makes them phenomenal photographers. You won’t end up with any photos of Aunt Sally in the background, or an ugly lamp post distracting from your beautiful gown portraits. You can also rest assured that if anyone has something in their teeth or a spot on their dress, your photographer will let you know and do their very best to fix it.

They love what they do

At the end of the day, the choice is ultimately yours but our job as photographers is to make sure you’re as well educated as you possibly can be. We will take the time to educate you and ensure that you are prepared for your big day!
